The Stelvio
Road tubular, as its name suggests, has been developed for road racing 700 x 22,
but there is also a size for time trial competition 700 x 19. For grueling
races, such as the notorious Paris - Roubaix, it is also offered in a 25 mm wide
section 700 x 25 for increased protection against punctures and a more
comfortable ride on uneven roads.
Stelvio Road tubulars do not have a tube inserted in the regular way, instead it
is directly vulcanized into the tire. In this way there are no seams and
consequently no lumps or bumps to be felt in the tire when it rolls. In addition
there is an added bonus: No sudden and catastrophic air loss due to punctures.
"Stelvio Tubulars also have a remarkably high-quality carcass". The textile
consists of super-light, resilient nylon that is woven extra-finely into a
fabric of 120 tpi. With an additional nylon belt the carcass consists altogether
of five layers and yet another rubber layer is added to achieve a very high
level of puncture protection. Nevertheless the Stelvio Road 700 x 22 at just 240
grams is still one of the lightest tubulars available.
